While the Internet has made information readily available which is fantastic; sometimes finding that information can be a daunting task. Used correctly search engines are an effective resource to find that elusive form you are looking for. You do need to know a few strategies and search tricks to get what you need.

Step One - be as specific as possible when searching. Unfocused searches can be maddening and fruitless. If you go to the resource box at the end of the article, you will be taken to a site that provides popular search terms for forms.

Step Two - classify your search by your keywords i.e. if you are looking for a tax form, you would want to search for either the form name i.e. 1040A, or if you dont know the form name, search for its attributes. For example, US short tax form, US tax forms, IRS tax forms. Each one of these search terms will bring you closer to the pages that relate to the form you are looking for.

Step Three- Dont be afraid of using lots of keywords. The more information that you give the search engine, the better your chance of a quick hit. For example, instead of searching for Tax Forms, try to search for Tax Forms, Canada, Child Tax Credit, Education, Ontario, GST

Boolean searches were popular when the internet was in its infancy, but now the use of these types of searches is pass. Today, in order to search effectively certain symbols have replaced or and and and not. So learn the most common search qualifiers to aid you.

Double Quotes ( "" ) this tells the search engine that the result must be exact and that your keyword phase must be returned in the result. For example IRS tax forms.

Addition Sign (+)-use this between your keywords and you will get searches that have any of those words contained in the webpage, title, or within the URL itself. An example here would be health+insurance+claim+forms.

Subtraction Sign(-)-use this so that the search engine will search for results that DO NOT include that word. An example here is; insurance+claim+forms+dental-Mutual life.

Now if that does not get you the form(s) you need, you can also do an advanced search, which is slightly different on each search engine. However, generally the symbols above will return the results you are looking for.
